Developing TVET Skill Talent in Penang

On 2nd May 2024, ViTrox Campus 2.0 Batu Kawan, Penang achieved a huge milestone occurred when 2 large local companies joined efforts to develop local talent. They met this morning to sign a MOU to forge a unique TVET skill education for the local youth in the electronics industry. 


Young boys and girls, after leaving high school (SMK), shall be enrolled in a TVET SLDN program where the apprentice will receive practical training for 4 days a week at UWC Berhad, also located in the Batu Kawan Industrial Park, and 1-day theory class at ViTrox College. This young mind will go through a one-year program in the Mechatronics program. Those who pass the final year assessment test regulated by the Jabatan Pembangunan Kemahiran (JPK) will receive an SKM level 3 certificate. 


Besides receiving practical training and theory education, the apprentice will also receive a monthly allowance. This allowance will help the student and their family deal with financial burdens. 


In her speech, Ms Ng Sze Yen, the General Manager of UWC Holding, said their company aspires to provide a long-term education pathway for these students. The company will provide support for the education for 1 year. The company will continue to provide support for those who wish to go on to take a Diploma degree and beyond. 


Dr Bugs Tan, the Head of TVET Skill Education of ViTrox College, has advised young school leavers (after SPM) in Penang not to go elsewhere to look for opportunities. Penang has already overtaken Selangor as Malaysia's economic powerhouse. Out of the total export of RM1.4 trillion, RM575b, or 20% are exported from Penang. Penang is also the top state for Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and 90% of the total exports from Penang are electronics-related products. Job opportunities are aplenty here in Penang. 


Mr Lim Kim Seng, the CFO of ViTrox Corporation, also graced the ceremony. By providing such a unique education program, we can help the youth to establish a better career for themselves, said by Mr Lim. Mr Lim also elaborated that it is ViTrox’s mission to be able to play a significant role in contributing to the advancement of society & well-being of humankind through compassionate innovation.
