The Ministry of Education (MOE) in Malaysia is implementing interventions across all segments to boost student participation in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields, particularly in Penang. Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek highlighted that these efforts are part of the education reform agenda to ensure better improvements in STEM.
The Ministry is organizing the Industry Networking Forum Towards TVET Sustainability to increase student interest in STEM, especially among vocational and technical school students. She emphasized the need for trained counselors to support students in choosing STEM pathways. Currently, only 52% of students in Penang opt for STEM, which is below the 60:40 target.
The forum will continue in other states, focusing on TVET student potential through industry collaboration. Key discussion areas include TVET program quality, strategic collaboration, branding, financing, and governance.
The Industry Networking Forum Towards TVET Sustainability, held at ViTrox College, served as a platform for discussions on strengthening synergies between MOE TVET institutions and industry. The forum focused on five key areas: TVET program quality, strategic collaboration, branding, financing, and governance.
Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek emphasized the government's commitment to enhancing the TVET sector, including expanding partnerships for teacher skill development and increasing the TVET Per Capita Grant (PCG) by 15% in Budget 2025.
ViTrox Technologies President & CEO Datuk Chu Jenn Weng was among the distinguished panelists, alongside other industry leaders. The event also featured the signing of MoUs between MOE's Technical Vocational Education and Training Division and nine strategic industry partners to enhance TVET education.
